The theme of the 45th National Convention, "Dawn of a New Era," was particularly appropriate as major changes were made to the National Council at this time. To take effect in 2000, the positions of Extension Director and Public Relations Director were combined under a new position called Marketing Director. Two other new positions, Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Collegiate Membership, were also added. An amendment to the Bylaws was also adopted that allowed for run-off elections, a rule that was immediately put into effect as there were three highly qualified candidates for two fo the National Council offices. The Carnation Shop was discontinued; in its place, the Phi Mu Foundation introduced Marketplace.
