When one of Alpha chapter's members, Virginia Willingham (Wood) (Marshall), transferred to Hollins College in Hollins, Virginia the fall after the national chartering, she was authorized to establish Phi Mu's second chapter. Virginia chose four other young women at Hollins and they became the chapter's charter members. Two or three Alpha Chapter members travelled to Hollins that fall and, using their badges for the ceremony, formally installed Beta Chapter on October 4, 1904.
